How to export your coloring book for Amazon KDP

How to export your coloring book for Amazon KDP

You can download a ColorBliss folder as one PDF and upload it directly as your book's interior in Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). For the tested setup below, you do not need to assemble the interior in Canva, Word, or another editor.

What it does

The folder download combines your coloring pages in folder order and sets the PDF's page size and margins automatically. You can include artwork on both sides of each sheet or add a blank back after every coloring page.

We tested both export options directly in KDP on October 30, 2026, with these settings:

KDP setting Tested choice
Book format Paperback
Trim size 8.5 × 11 inches
Ink and paper Black & white interior with white paper
Bleed No bleed
Interior layout Single-sided with blank backs, or double-sided

How to export and upload your book

Prepare your folder

  1. Put your book's coloring pages in one folder. Remove any pages you want to leave out.
  2. Arrange the pages in reading order. The PDF follows the folder's order.
  3. Check the page shapes. For a new 8.5 × 11 book, choose 8.5 × 11 in when creating your pages. Keep the same shape throughout the folder.
  4. Check your commercial license. Selling a book requires a ColorBliss plan that includes commercial use, such as Artist or Business. See plans and licensing terms.

Download the interior PDF

  1. Open the folder and click Download all.
  2. Open Download as PDF. Choose Single PDF for single-sided printing to add blank backs, or Single PDF (coloring book) for artwork on consecutive pages.
  3. Check your email for the download link, usually within 2 to 5 minutes.
  4. Download and open the PDF. Check the page order and page count. Confirm that the page size is 8.5 × 11 inches in your PDF viewer's document properties.

Choose one of the Single PDF options for this workflow. Zip of individual PDFs gives you separate files instead of one interior manuscript.

ColorBliss chooses the PDF size from the pages' shapes. Older 2:3 portrait pages normally export at 6 × 9 inches. The download menu does not offer a trim-size override, so check the exported PDF before choosing a size in KDP.

Upload to Amazon KDP

  1. Create or open a paperback on your KDP Bookshelf and complete the book details.
  2. Open Paperback Content and select Black & white interior with white paper, 8.5 × 11 inches, and No bleed for an 8.5 × 11 interior.
  3. Upload the downloaded PDF in the Manuscript section.
  4. Prepare the cover using KDP's Cover Creator or upload a separate cover PDF. See the cover instructions below.
  5. Answer KDP's AI-generated content questions. Images generated with ColorBliss count as AI-generated content under KDP's content guidelines, even if you edit them afterward.
  6. Launch KDP's Print Previewer. Inspect every page and resolve any errors before continuing. Order a physical proof to check the printed result before publishing.

The single-sided export already includes the blank backs. You do not need a separate single-sided setting in KDP.

Where it works

Use Download all inside a folder in the ColorBliss app. The steps above describe a paperback interior with the tested settings. Other trim sizes and bleed settings are outside that test.

Common patterns

For a book with a blank back behind every design, choose Single PDF for single-sided printing. A folder with 30 coloring pages produces a 60-page PDF.

For artwork on both sides, choose Single PDF (coloring book). The same folder produces a 30-page PDF.

KDP currently accepts 24 to 590 interior pages for an 8.5 × 11 paperback with black ink on white paper. Blank backs count toward that total. Check the final PDF's page count against KDP's trim-size and page-count requirements.

What to prepare separately

The folder PDF contains the interior pages. It does not add a title or copyright page, or include a cover. If you want extra front matter, add it in a PDF editor and check the page order again. Adding a page can shift which designs have blank backs.

For the cover, use KDP Cover Creator, or create one PDF containing the back cover, spine, and front cover. Use KDP's cover calculator with your final interior page count and print settings. Follow KDP's paperback cover requirements, including cover bleed even when the interior uses No bleed.

Order book in ColorBliss is a separate service for printing and shipping copies to you. Its cover checkout does not provide a KDP cover download. See how to order a custom printed coloring book.

Tips

Keep the downloaded interior at its original page size. Resizing it or printing it to another PDF can change the margins.

If KDP reports a trim-size mismatch, compare its selected size with the PDF's document properties. If you change the interior page count, update the cover template too, because the spine width depends on that count.

Getting help

Email help@colorbliss.com if the export fails or KDP reports a problem with the interior. Include your folder name, the PDF option you chose, and the exported PDF's page count and dimensions. Add your KDP print settings and a screenshot of the exact error.

Next steps

Open your book's folder and choose Download all, then Download as PDF. For other download formats, see how to download coloring pages.
